NAGAAA Fills Executive Board Vacancies
Executive Board at full participation with all positions filled.
MILWAUKEE, WISCONSIN — The North American Gay Amateur Athletic Alliance is pleased to announce the addition of two new board members to the NAGAAA Executive Board while formally announcing the transition of two existing board members into new roles.
Jeff James (New York) has joined the NAGAAA Executive Board as the new Secretary. Jeff is a past commissioner of the Big Apple Softball League for four years and assistant commissioner of BASL for four years prior to that. He was also instrumental in the work creating NAGAAA’s current Governing Manual document.
Sam Lehman (New York) joins the NAGAAA Executive Board as the new Business Development Director. Sam has been associated with both the Southern New England and Big Apple Softball Leagues. He has previously served as NAGAAA’s Sponsorship & Fundraising Chair. Sam is actively involved in the National LGBT Chamber of Commerce (NGLCC) where he serves in several leadership roles. Sam was inducted into the NAGAAA Hall of Fame recently in 2018.
Chris Balton (Memphis) is taking on a non-voting support role as Past Commissioner. Chris will support the Executive Board through these transitions and his duties will include serving as a point of continuity for our GSWS hotel relationships and representing NAGAAA at LGBT and sport industry forums. Chris recently ended his successful tenure as NAGAAA Commissioner in January earlier this year.
Catherine “CJ” Kelly (Kansas City) has transitioned from Business Development Director to the role of Director of Operations. CJ’s familiarity with and positioning in Kansas City will greatly assist the Executive Board and the entire organization leading up to the 2019 Gay Softball World Series in Kansas City.
Jeff Sloan (Houston) took on a new role as the new Director of Competition in March 2019. Jeff has served as the Director of Competition and Secretary for the past two months. He will now fully transition into the Director of Competition role with the appointment of Jeff James as Secretary.
All four of these roles are being filled for the remainder of the current two year term period that is up for each position in January 2020. The positions of Director of Competition, Secretary, Business Development Director and Director of Operations will all be up for election at the 2020 NAGAAA Winter Meetings in Columbus, Ohio.

This announcement comes roughly three months out from the 43rd Annual Gay Softball World Series (GSWS), NAGAAA’s flagship annual softball tournament that brings over 5,000 athletes to a different host city every year. The 2019 GSWS will be held September 2 – 7 in Kansas City, Missouri.
NAGAAA is the member-driven managing organization that coordinates the highest level of international competitive LGBT softball. NAGAAA sets the standards for fair play, supports local leagues with understanding and executing those standards and ensures accountability and compliance with the standards during sponsored athletic competitions. Currently there are more than 46 cities in North America with a NAGAAA Affiliated league, and there are collectively over 1,000 unique teams and over 17,000 players.
